| | The following art guidelines have been provided to ensure the best reproduced art quality for wide web flexographic, surface printing. Art/plate costs and lead times provided in quotations are based on receiving correctly prepared digital artwork.
GRAPHICS SOFTWARE With the Macintosh OS having preference, the following major graphic software programs are supported, but not limited to: - Adobe® Illustrator®
- Adobe® InDesign®
- Adobe® Photoshop®
- QuarkXPressTM
BAG TEMPLATES Designers may request a dieline/template of the bag(s) prior to layout creation to reveal web width and cutoff, handle or zipper positioning, seal or tape locations, bleeds or margins, etc.
|
| | COLOR Differentiate between PMS and/or process colors within artwork when printing more than one color. PMS colors should be identically named in all programs if importing. Any graphic color-built to reproduce the color black should be made from 100% black only. This specification includes all vector and most bitmapped-type artwork.
Ink roll-outs for PMS colors or custom colors on a particular film color and blend can be made to simulate print results. Ink roll-outs must be requested, unless there are trap and/or overprints that Roplast would like approved prior to production.
|
| | TYPOGRAPHY Typefaces and sizes should be specified for maximum readability; if type is legible at a normal reading distance, it generally can be printed successfully. Serif typefaces should be avoided when possible, especially when printing small or reverse.
Minimum size type guidelines for the majority of our products are: - Positive: 6 point
- Reverse: 8 point
- All positive and reverse text containing ©, ®, ", etc. should be increased 2 points in size.
Line art should be specified at no less than 1 point (0.014") in width. If printing reverse, a line width of 1.25 point (0.017") or greater is preferred.
Postscript Type 1 fonts are recommended; do not use True Type fonts. Convert text to outline or path as much as possible. Always include both the printer and screen versions of fonts with the supplied art files.
Minimum type size requirements vary depending on printing press capability. Please call Roplast's Art Coordinator or a Roplast Sales Service Representative for specific guidelines.
|
| | HALFTONE SCREENS Solid screen values should be set between 3% - 87%. The same values apply to process screen values. Any halftone above 87% will most likely print as 100%. Any halftone below 3% will not print uniformly. | |
|
| | TRAP (IMAGE) In order to allow normal register tolerances to exist without degrading the integrity of a design, trap is required between adjacent images printing in different colors. Please supply untrapped art files (Roplast will apply trap.) that have been designed to accommodate our trap tolerances. For the majority of Roplast products, our presses require a trap of 1/32" (0.0313) minimum to 1/16" (0.0625) maximum.
Trap tolerances vary depending on printing press capability. Please call Roplast's Art Coordinator or a Roplast Sales Service Representative for specific guidelines.
|
| | UNIVERSAL PRODUCT CODE (UPC) SYMBOLS All UPC symbols should be nominal (100%) size or larger. Truncated (shortened) bars are not desired. All UPC symbols should have a bar width reduction of 0.004".
Symbols should be oriented in the press direction (i.e. positioned so that bars run parallel to the printing web edge). When shown on artwork "for position only", symbols must indicate either the correct UPC number or all zeroes to avoid confusion. Design a quiet zone (non-print area) of at least 1/8" (0.125) around symbols. UPC symbols should print in dark, cool colors (preferably black) against a light background (preferably white).
|
| | PROOFS First Proof. A fax, color print or emailed PDF file of the artwork will be sent to the customer for approval. This signed proof is an agreement between Roplast and the customer on the final print target, copy, position, color, size, etc. These are not for exact color match. PMS and custom colors are identified by reference number and/or ink roll-outs.
Final Proof. Made digitally or from final platemaking negatives, these proofs are not mandatory for customer approval unless Roplast would like particular trap lines and/or overprints approved prior to production. Copy, trap, layout, distortion, screens, separation, etc. are confirmed.
Process Color Proof. These may be required for customer approval if artwork contains process work and/or continuous tone photographs. Process color proofs are made to simulate reproduction on Roplast's flexographic presses when operating under standard conditions.
|
| | FILE FORMAT Create art as a color separated, 100% print size, one-up image. Scanned or raster images for process work and continuous tone printing must be at least 300 dpi at 100%. Convert raster images to CMYK. Scans must be saved as TIFF or EPS files.
Art files should be appropriately labeled. Please supply the following: - page layout file
- support graphic files (i.e. placed or imported files)
- original graphic files if editing is necessary
- printer and screen versions of each font
Please note that JPEG and PDF files are not final art files. We need the original layered documents (ai, psd, eps.)
|
| | STORAGE/TRANSFER MEDIA Electronic/digital data can be submitted to Roplast on the following: - 100MB/250MB Zip Drive
- CD-ROM disk
Art files may also be sent electronically as email attachments to: creative@roplast.com. The maximum file sent via email must not exceed 20MB in size. The use of our FTP site is an additional alternative. Please call Roplast's Art Coordinator for FTP uploading instructions.
